What is a food label?
Food labelling means everything written on food or drink packaging visible to the consumer when they buy.
About food labelling rules
Labelling rules cover what you may or must put on your food label if you want to sell your food and drink in New Zealand.
The label includes any writing and images:
- on labels attached to packaging
- printed directly onto packaging, such as wrappers, jars or lids.
Food labels and advertising
Any information not allowed on a food label won't be allowed in advertising either.
For example, if you can't prove a nutrition content claim, you can't:
- put it on your label
- include it in any form of advertising, marketing or promotion, including online.
