Use and storage instructions on food labels

If consumers must use or store your food or drink in a certain way to make sure it's safe and suitable, your label must give those directions.

Examples of instructions

  • 'Keep refrigerated'.
  • 'Refrigerate after opening'.
  • 'Keep frozen. Do not refreeze after thawing'.

You should also say if the product should be mixed with something, like water, and in what quantities.

Raw bamboo shoots and cassava

If the food is or contains:

  • raw bamboo shoots – you must say they should be fully cooked before eating
  • raw sweet cassava – you must say it should be peeled and fully cooked before eating.
